About Dexter

Dexter was platted in 1875 and named for a famous trotting horse owned by Robert Bonner of New York. In 1903 a gas well drilled here turned out to be nonflammable, and University of Kansas researchers found helium in it, leading to the discovery that helium could be extracted from natural gas.
