About Sterling

Sterling was founded in 1872 as Peace and renamed in 1876 by two brothers for their father, Sterling Rosan. Jonathan S. Dillon ran a general store here in the 1890s before opening his first Dillons market in Hutchinson in 1913. Sterling College is in town, and in the 1970s Sterling was known as a national broomcorn capital.
